Oh No He Did Not Just Say That !!!!!!!!!!!!

Plain Foolywang Material is what Pastor Manning is!! ( Refer to www.theybf.com for definition of Foolywang). This is truly disturbing! How can a "pastor" be this disrespectful and insulting to another human being. I would expect that at his age he would know the definition of true beauty. This type of behaviour will not even be displayed by a middle schooler. I consider this more disrespectful to the very One who Pastor Manning supposedly serves - GOD. Doesnt he realize that God created everyone, himself, Michelle Obama , Whoopi Goldberg and everyone else on this earth alike!WOW
Regardless of where you stand politically no one should encourage this. And frankly i'm debating posting this because i'm only helping him spread his filthy message. So I'm posting this with a WARNING- Reader Be Prepared to be Disgusted!

Good Home Food

I miss the good food from Ghana so badly, it’s inexplicable;

Kelewele from Labone junction

Kenkey & Fish from Osu, near Koala,

Dark Creamy Golden Tree Choclate,

Aunty Muni’s Waakye,

Tatale and Beans from Adabraka,

Khebab from Coffee Shop,

Club Sandwich from Chicken N’ Licken,

Red Red & fried plantain from American Embassy,

Fried Rice and grilled chicken from Papaye,

You get the picture; I’m salivating like Pavlovian dog right about now!!!

Art or Racism?

Italian Vogue (July)
American Vogue/Godzilla

Italian Vogue has choosen to honour Black beauty by featuring only black models in its entire July issue, and I'm sure you have heard this if you are from Earth. In case you're a Martian, let me educate you a bit.

Renowned models, Tyra Banks, Naomi Campbell, Tocarra( from ANTM and one of my favorite ANTM alumni), will be featured in the issue along with afro-centered articles and such. In other words, its Italien Vogue meets Essence magazine, for one week. Its definately exciting to have a mag feature Black models in a time when not enough runway models are colored.

But my question is, is this Art or is this just an attempt to gain publicity? In which case should a colored person be excited or feel used? I'm sure this is a bold fashion statement, crossing the political line somewhat. But is one month out of twelve really enough? Absolutely not! Vogue should incorporate the use of Black models on a regular basis.

And then there is the American edition of Vogue, which celebrated athletism along with fashion. On the cover was LeBron James and Gisele Bundchen in a pose which cynics discribe as racist. Its not until I saw the cover vis a vis Godzilla's poster that I saw the similarities. And now I have joined the cynics.
Personally, Im not over the moon about the issue. Yes, I'll confess I will grab a copy but its not to say that I'm totally in awe of this whole fiasco!

Our Wife

Our Wife

When she become yours, she was ours,
No longer the property of another,
She responds to no other name but yours,
Her culture, her identity, no longer that of her father,
Our wife she became,
And just like a property we shall claim.

Her children are ours,
Custom cannot have it otherwise,
The seed germinates from two flowers,
Yet its creation belongs to one and not both,
Tradition speaks, the drums of Africa beat,
Shall she accept its feat?

Here lies my inspiration- I just watched a documentary about interracial marriage. The setting: A young Nigerian immigrant struggling to make it abroad finds his bride in a Jewish Caucasian lady. Fast forward five years to the climax: His parents voice their concern about an inter-cultural marriage. They say their grand-children will have no identity. Nigeria will not accept them and neither will the other. Point taken. The young gentleman is torn and distraught. He has found love somewhere he did not wish to find. His mother believes that marriage is between two families and should the two tie the knot, she is not just his wife but ‘our wife’. I hear.
I hear but I dissent. Our forefathers laid the customs, our parents followed. It is our turn to follow but we are stubborn. And for a good reason I argue. Off course our identity is important and we must respect who we are and where we came from. But must love be the victim of tradition? Perhaps I’m just closer to my heart than my fore-fathers where. The reality though is that my generation is exposed to the world in a way that my fore-fathers were not. And although my children may not have a sense of belonging they will not be alone because there will be a million other children with whom they will share that same feeling. Maybe I’m young, those with the grays are knowledgeable and I am not. You be the judge.

I, Wait

I Wait

Waiting, wishfully wanting him to walk,
Into my innermost world and never cease,
To direct, protect, our prey like a hawk,
Not just any but the ONE which will please,
You, me and everyone, this is your promise and not just talk.

Waiting, for that merry moment from above,
Patiently praying for perpetual peace,
Consistently craving that cradle of love,
Lord let your hands stretch and guide me,
In this search for the one who will fit this glove.

Waiting, the second of grace is near,
The heart whispers, “The ONE is here”,
When all doubt is cast away, let go of fear,
Listen to Him, he molded you, lose no tear,
And then the wait is over and the skies are clear.

Two have been chosen to become one,
To whom shall thanks be given?
When all was dark and lone,
He who carried you in the wings of an eagle, praise be given!

Wedding Pic of the Year

Everyone likes wedding, the happy couple, free food and drinks, family and friends...at least thats what its supposed to be. But some brides can be overexcited..Here is proof..LOOOOL

Because by T.D Jakes

Just because no one has been fortunate enough to realize what a gold mine you are, doesn't mean you shine any less.

Just because no one has been smart enough to figure out
That you can't be topped, doesn't stop you from being the best.

Just because no one has come along to share your life, doesn't mean that day isn't coming.

Just because no one has made this race worthwhile, doesn't give you permission to stop running.

Just because no one has realized how much of an awesome woman you are, doesn't mean they can affect your femininity.

Just because no one has shown up who can love you on your level, doesn't mean you have to sink to theirs.

Just because you deserve the very best there is, Doesn't mean that life is always fair.

Just because God is still preparing your king, doesn't mean that you're not already a Queen.

Just because your situation doesn't seem to be progressing right now, doesn't mean you need to change a thing.

Keep shining, keep running, Keep hoping, and keep praying,
Keep being exactly what you are already.

COMPLETE!!

Summer, Summer, Summer Time

I have just been wondering where is all the sun? It's this darn cold country oh!Still wearing a jacket.I like to think this is all temporary! Get in, Get off, Get out!

What if you had no Excuses?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EhK4-Cgt7Jg&eurl=

What if you had no excuses?
An excuse is just a way to avoid reality, to run away from what we should accept. I was greatly touched when I viewed this video. The passion the speaker had motivated me to stop making excuses when it came to worshipping Christ...I proclaimed to be christian but not making it to church was okay, I would find an excuse. Its not just in spirituality that we make excuses but in everything in our lives, work school, and many more...Its a greater step towards being who God wants us to be, when we Make No More Excuses.

I dont know where, when or who, or even the fact that I dont understand a word of it, but this song is definately being played at my wedding ;-)

AccesoRISE

Ghanaian Beads
Beads are a great way to bring some color to any outfit.I have not always been fond of them but lately they seem very trendy.Especially since African wax print dresses have been in vogue since last year! I'm yet to get mine but I thought I'd focus on accessorizing first. Ghanaian beads come in vibrant colors, shapes and sizes. Different beads are worn on different occasions but there's no restriction, if it matches the outfit you can rock them any day. Here's a few of my favorite beads....(very favorite are the chevron, the blue ones with white stripes ;-)

If anyone has websites or pictures of beads from other countries I would love to share them with everyone...mail them to coffieblog@gmail.com.

"Glass beads are made in ceramic molds by firing in wood burning kilns. Made by
men, it takes several years of apprenticeship to be able to form some of the
intricate patterns associated with African beads."

TED Conference

I've fallen in love with the Ted Conferences which take place yearly and address pertinent issues about society, technology, and development.I'm more interested in the talks which address Africa and its growth! I have to thank K for intoducing me to these talks..;-)....Its empowering to hear Africans talk about Africa, to know that there are competent individuals who are educated and willing to tackle the problems Africa faces and not just rely on "the man", as our governments have always done and continue to do!! Lets start with Patrick Awuah (whom I admire and will be posting more about). He's begun to transform education in Ghana by creating Ashesi University, he left a high paying price with Microsoft, yes Microsoft people!Very impressive...And then theres Prof. Ayittey who urges the youth to be a 'Cheetah'....Go Cheetahs!!..Go Cheetahs..lol..cant wait for a new Africa...pass this video to someone, EMPOWER..

Definately one of my favorite Idol winners,Miss Jordin Sparks, recently visited Ghana with American President George W. Bush this February...She sung the national anthem and even decided to rock an," I Love Ghana " tee on TRL later...Thanks Jordin!! p.s..she did look a bit rough in Ghana..gotta love makeup and hairstylists..lol

The Apprentice Africa

First day of Blogging, excited about this!So since I'm still deciding the direction of this blog, I'll just explore everything, I just found out that there's an african apprentice, you all know the famous Donald Trump's American reality show?..well every reality show seems to be crossing over to Africa!..Big Brother, West African Idol, Nigeria/Ghana's Next Top Model...and now The Apprentice Africa!..I've watched the premiere and it seemed interesting..I'm not so sure about the Nigerian Donald Trump,Biodun Shobanjo(Michelle, you are Fireeed)...LOL..but great effort over all!!I'm pretty excited to know that are still two Ghanians reping in the show!..Really rooting for Ms. Agyare ;-)

Here's a link for the Ghanain auditions, as well as some episodes..Enjoy!http://www.theapprenticeafrica.com/multimedia.php?vid=2

India Arie or Beyonce?

The 70's was the disco ball, bell bottoms and Afro era!! It seems like all theses elements have made a come back with the exception of the Afro!..Offcourse theres a few ladies rocking thier Fro's but you cant deny that more ladies are rocking relaxed hair, and Weaves!! I am soo very guilty of rocking weaves myself!...At this point Ive forgotten the color, length and texture of my hair :-(..Yes i'm ashamed...but can you blame me?It so much easier to rock a weave and so affordable when you are a student or even working full time!!...(My people yes I'm good at making exsuses)...

But the question I have to ask is, India Arie( Fro) or Beyonce(Weave/Perm)?..now tell me which one sells more records?...LOL

A group on facebook called,'Ghanians rocking thier hair natural' got me thinking about this! I felt like I had sold out or renounced my "Africaness" by wearing weaves and a perm! I personally think its a choice and I dont think anyone should be critized for having either hair!..If i'm renouncing my roots then maybe I should be rocking my Kente in this -30 degrees weather?..Maybe I should not be speaking vernacular?...Or should I be eating with my hands as my forefathers and mothers did?...Should I?...

What do you think?

Mr.X

One of the reasons why i have started blogging is so that i can truly express myself, without thinking anyone is judging me or without expecting a response that's bias because xyz is a friend, sister or a certain someone special. So my people I expect everyone's comment to reflect your true emotions.Call a spade a spade I beg of you!..Okiee..so my second blog is about a certain Mr. X...As if said, all my posts are totally random, its whatever I feel like...lol..so buckle up....
So about a year ago, a certain fine fine( as a nigerian would say) oga decided to holler at a sister, and through none other than Mark Zuckerburg, yes I can not even begin to explain how Mr. Zuckerburg has introduced cyber romance to my life..So for the slow ones, Mr. X sent me a message on facebook...and it goes,
'Dear Coffie, I cant help but tell you how much I think you are beautiful."..
Okaaaaaaaay...I was surprised, my first facebook proposal, I usually restricted cyber romance to msn, Is this cheating?..nways yes to Im just surprised, but I have to admit that Ive been stalking Mr. X since Hi5(thats two years before facebook)....yes my people I am that bad!..Surprised but sooo content..seriosuly I smiled to sleep that night!
Ladies you know sometimes getting attention from a fine guy is always a self-esteem booster!C'mon admit it!..
So I reply," Hey there"...I get a reply from Mr.X in less than thirty minutes..woohooo..soo lets fastforward because our message courtship lasted about two weeks..messaging back and forth, every single message begun with" Hey Gorgeous'..Hmm..Ey3 Asem Oh(my Gh peoples)..serious romancing..I admit the boy knew what he was doing..(Will explain later why I call him a boy).....So we moved on to the second stage-Phone...yep, he asked for my number and in two seconds, he calls...I'm shocked again..was thinking he would call the next day....The Brother is not playing Joh!..nways all this while my head is expanding..and trust me his voice is just smooooth,lol...
Okay this story is so long eh, Ill need some serious fufu to tell it all ...but stay tuned,

To be contiued...

C'est ca!!
