Olooo Mi

I just cant seem to get enough of this song, after I found it on some random wedding site ( I'm not as weird as you think,lol..stalking wedding websites is just a part-time job) and then I got my Naija girlfriend to find me an mp3, unfortunately she couldnt but she sent me this youtube link....thought I'd share it....

I dont know where, when or who, or even the fact that I dont understand a word of it, but this song is definately being played at my wedding ;-)

Ghanaian Beads
Beads are a great way to bring some color to any outfit.I have not always been fond of them but lately they seem very trendy.Especially since African wax print dresses have been in vogue since last year! I'm yet to get mine but I thought I'd focus on accessorizing first. Ghanaian beads come in vibrant colors, shapes and sizes. Different beads are worn on different occasions but there's no restriction, if it matches the outfit you can rock them any day. Here's a few of my favorite beads....(very favorite are the chevron, the blue ones with white stripes ;-)

If anyone has websites or pictures of beads from other countries I would love to share them with everyone...mail them to coffieblog@gmail.com.

"Glass beads are made in ceramic molds by firing in wood burning kilns. Made by
men, it takes several years of apprenticeship to be able to form some of the
intricate patterns associated with African beads."

TED Conference

I've fallen in love with the Ted Conferences which take place yearly and address pertinent issues about society, technology, and development.I'm more interested in the talks which address Africa and its growth! I have to thank K for intoducing me to these talks..;-)....Its empowering to hear Africans talk about Africa, to know that there are competent individuals who are educated and willing to tackle the problems Africa faces and not just rely on "the man", as our governments have always done and continue to do!! Lets start with Patrick Awuah (whom I admire and will be posting more about). He's begun to transform education in Ghana by creating Ashesi University, he left a high paying price with Microsoft, yes Microsoft people!Very impressive...And then theres Prof. Ayittey who urges the youth to be a 'Cheetah'....Go Cheetahs!!..Go Cheetahs..lol..cant wait for a new Africa...pass this video to someone, EMPOWER..

The Apprentice Africa

First day of Blogging, excited about this!So since I'm still deciding the direction of this blog, I'll just explore everything, I just found out that there's an african apprentice, you all know the famous Donald Trump's American reality show?..well every reality show seems to be crossing over to Africa!..Big Brother, West African Idol, Nigeria/Ghana's Next Top Model...and now The Apprentice Africa!..I've watched the premiere and it seemed interesting..I'm not so sure about the Nigerian Donald Trump,Biodun Shobanjo(Michelle, you are Fireeed)...LOL..but great effort over all!!I'm pretty excited to know that are still two Ghanians reping in the show!..Really rooting for Ms. Agyare ;-)

Here's a link for the Ghanain auditions, as well as some episodes..Enjoy!http://www.theapprenticeafrica.com/multimedia.php?vid=2

India Arie or Beyonce?

The 70's was the disco ball, bell bottoms and Afro era!! It seems like all theses elements have made a come back with the exception of the Afro!..Offcourse theres a few ladies rocking thier Fro's but you cant deny that more ladies are rocking relaxed hair, and Weaves!! I am soo very guilty of rocking weaves myself!...At this point Ive forgotten the color, length and texture of my hair :-(..Yes i'm ashamed...but can you blame me?It so much easier to rock a weave and so affordable when you are a student or even working full time!!...(My people yes I'm good at making exsuses)...

But the question I have to ask is, India Arie( Fro) or Beyonce(Weave/Perm)?..now tell me which one sells more records?...LOL

A group on facebook called,'Ghanians rocking thier hair natural' got me thinking about this! I felt like I had sold out or renounced my "Africaness" by wearing weaves and a perm! I personally think its a choice and I dont think anyone should be critized for having either hair!..If i'm renouncing my roots then maybe I should be rocking my Kente in this -30 degrees weather?..Maybe I should not be speaking vernacular?...Or should I be eating with my hands as my forefathers and mothers did?...Should I?...

What do you think?

Mr.X

One of the reasons why i have started blogging is so that i can truly express myself, without thinking anyone is judging me or without expecting a response that's bias because xyz is a friend, sister or a certain someone special. So my people I expect everyone's comment to reflect your true emotions.Call a spade a spade I beg of you!..Okiee..so my second blog is about a certain Mr. X...As if said, all my posts are totally random, its whatever I feel like...lol..so buckle up....
So about a year ago, a certain fine fine( as a nigerian would say) oga decided to holler at a sister, and through none other than Mark Zuckerburg, yes I can not even begin to explain how Mr. Zuckerburg has introduced cyber romance to my life..So for the slow ones, Mr. X sent me a message on facebook...and it goes,
'Dear Coffie, I cant help but tell you how much I think you are beautiful."..
Okaaaaaaaay...I was surprised, my first facebook proposal, I usually restricted cyber romance to msn, Is this cheating?..nways yes to Im just surprised, but I have to admit that Ive been stalking Mr. X since Hi5(thats two years before facebook)....yes my people I am that bad!..Surprised but sooo content..seriosuly I smiled to sleep that night!
Ladies you know sometimes getting attention from a fine guy is always a self-esteem booster!C'mon admit it!..
So I reply," Hey there"...I get a reply from Mr.X in less than thirty minutes..woohooo..soo lets fastforward because our message courtship lasted about two weeks..messaging back and forth, every single message begun with" Hey Gorgeous'..Hmm..Ey3 Asem Oh(my Gh peoples)..serious romancing..I admit the boy knew what he was doing..(Will explain later why I call him a boy).....So we moved on to the second stage-Phone...yep, he asked for my number and in two seconds, he calls...I'm shocked again..was thinking he would call the next day....The Brother is not playing Joh!..nways all this while my head is expanding..and trust me his voice is just smooooth,lol...
Okay this story is so long eh, Ill need some serious fufu to tell it all ...but stay tuned,

To be contiued...
